Clean Hands and a Pure Heart; Discerning
Quiet and Clear; Coordinating without Self
I came to know Brother Wu back in the 1980s, but our actually coordinating together began in the year 2000. According to my many years of observing the brother, besides what many brothers and sisters have testified and mentioned, perhaps the following few points may be added.
Someone asked: why, in the early 1980s, did the two elder brothers Witness Lee and Zhang Xiangze (張湘澤), out of so many brothers, ask Brother Wu to come out to serve? As I see it, our brother had a characteristic that is very precious, namely, that his "heart" was quite pure. In everything he had no consideration for himself but simply had God's affairs on his heart. What God values is our heart (Matt. 5:8), that is, He values our being more than our doing. Toward God, toward people, and toward matters, Brother Wu was clean; he was one with "clean hands and a pure heart" (Psa. 24:4).
Second, God also gave our brother a very precious power of discernment, which one might even call extraordinary. He could perceive both spiritual and worldly matters. He was like this not only toward matters but also toward people, being one who was not easily deceived. "I sleep, but my heart is awake" (S.S. 5:2)—taken literally, this is also a fact that many saw in the brother.
The brother was a man of few words, yet one who very much knew how to listen. Brother Wu could easily understand what others said; what others did not say, he often heard as well. He was one who was not subjective, who was inwardly quiet and clear—how precious this is! Brother Wu could not only listen; he was also one willing to lay aside his own opinions and to learn to coordinate.
Finally, on some things many people have already said, I would like to add a little. Seven times a year, Brother Wu brought the co-workers in Taiwan, as well as a considerable number of saints, to the United States to attend the seven yearly trainings and conferences, thereby keeping the oneness in the Lord's recovery. Had it not been for this almost "crazy" burden and action, the Lord's recovery truly would not know what kind of condition it would be in today. We thank God for His grace and keeping, and thank our dear Brother Wu for his faithfulness.
