Finishing My Course,
Solemnly Testifying the Gospel of the Grace of God
The smile of Brother Wu and his staggering figure keep rising up in my mind. I think of how we once went to Israel together, where he gave his utmost thought and effort for the establishing of the church in Jerusalem. When my elder sister had a kidney transplant, he personally flew to Tianjin to accompany and care for her with meticulous attention; and there were many, many more instances of his tender, loving perfecting. Such a busy brother, yet he could attend with such care to the needs of the brothers and sisters.
In these recent years, watching him drag his weak and ailing body, flying and rushing about the world to serve, never willing to let go, we often urged him not to wear himself out excessively, but always to nourish and cherish his body. He only smiled and gave no answer.
He often said, "What am I, that I should be able to receive the support and help of so many brothers and sisters?" In my heart I always felt: You are a leading, responsible brother, yet you can be so humble, cherishing the brothers and sisters with such special tenderness, without any airs whatsoever; for the work of the Lord and the oneness of the Body, you spare no toil, pouring yourself out to the last breath.
Brother Wu, you were just as Paul said, "But I consider my life of no account as if precious to myself, in order that I may finish my course and the ministry which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to solemnly testify the gospel of the grace of God" (Acts 20:24).
