Giving His Utmost to the Very End, Devoted Until Death
Brother Wu and I studied together at Taiwan Normal University, and at the school meetings and the college conferences I would always see him. In the meetings, when he sang hymns his voice was full of breath and resounding, and when he fellowshipped his words were like sparkling pearls. At the same time he was an athletic champion, strong and robust, very good at basketball. I once played basketball with him and came to appreciate that he was a high scorer; the team he led often won. His disposition was hearty and generous; he kept his word and did not haggle with others.
Because he had the gift of handling affairs, he was often arranged to serve as the general manager of conferences. Sometimes I was arranged in the electrical service group, coordinating together with him to serve the conferences. I saw that in his service he had not only an all-around view but also the ability to coordinate and fellowship, so that every link connected closely, striving for perfection. In the preparation before a conference, the rounds during it, and the cleanup afterward, he gave his heart and strength together with the brothers, so that the conference could proceed smoothly.
In 1985 he was appointed by Brother Lee as the manager of Taiwan Gospel Book Room. At that time he served not only the church in Taipei and all the churches in Taiwan, but he even had fellowship with all the churches overseas. He once said to us, "So much service is pressed upon me; it really is not something a man can do. My capacity has been stretched out, and my ability has been pressed out. Thank the Lord, His grace is sufficient for me!"
After 1996 I was invited to join the service of the board of directors of the De-Rong Foundation, of which he was then the chairman. Although his body was no longer as strong as in his youth, he still took part in the fellowship as much as he could. Sometimes, seeing the weariness in his eyes, I would ask after him, "Are you well?" He always answered, "Thank the Lord, I'm as well as you are!" He truly was a man who strove and poured himself out for the Lord.
In February 2017, entrusted by the responsible brothers of the church in Coquitlam, Canada, with the matter of purchasing a meeting hall, I returned to Taiwan together with Brother Su Chengde to go to the Shinkee Building to see Brother Wu and Brother Lin Hong. Sure enough, through his fellowship, the offerings of all the churches in Taiwan exceeded what we asked or thought. Thank the Lord, through the brother's magnanimity, the church's matter of purchasing a meeting hall was accomplished. He took up the good pattern of Brother Lee—"giving his utmost to the very end, devoted until death"—and also became a pattern to all who serve the Lord.
