Cherishing, Nourishing, Perfecting—
For the Work of the Ministry,
For the Building Up of the Body of Christ
From childhood I lived the church life in District 43 under Hall Six of the church in Taipei. The bread-breaking meeting was held in the home of Brother Wu Youcheng's father, and the children's meeting was at the hall. Brother Wu was the one who served me when I was in junior high, and he often came to visit me. Every time Brother Wu came to my home, before he had even arrived, we would hear his hearty voice, "Big Brother Wu is here!" Besides caring for my schoolwork, Brother Wu also cared for my life of reading the Bible and praying; every time he came to visit me, he would read the Bible with me and have me recite verses.
When I entered senior high, because my family was poor, I went to study at the Air Force Preparatory School in Donggang, Pingtung, and then went on to the Air Force Academy in Gangshan. Life in the military academy was strict, regimented, and plain, yet I often recalled Brother Wu's admonition: reading the Bible and praying are the life a Christian ought to have. In seven years of military academy life, I read the Bible and prayed on my knees nearly every day, and I was joined to the church life there. I can say that even amid my childish ignorance I saw the vision of Christ and the church, and I began to have more subjective experiences of the Lord, willing all my life to love the Lord and to love the Lord's church.
After graduating from the academy, I was assigned by orders to serve at the computer center in Taipei. By then Hall Six had grown to include Hall Sixteen, so I returned to Hall Sixteen. Brother Wu was the responsible brother of Hall Sixteen, and in order to perfect me, he arranged for me to serve the young people. Every Saturday evening he also arranged for me to lodge together with the elders and responsible brothers, to prepare for the Lord's Day meeting, and he arranged for me to serve by leading the Bible reading and hymns, and required me to pursue the spiritual publications and to exercise in prophesying in the Lord's Day evening meeting.
Brother Wu also cared for my marriage, holding the wedding meeting for Huimei and me at the hall. After our marriage, Brother Wu also used the holidays to drive Huimei and me out to blend, to dine together and have fellowship, caring for us in every way.
In the autumn of 1984, when Brother Witness Lee returned to Taiwan from America seeking the Lord's new way, Brother Wu and Brother Lin Hong encouraged Huimei and me to open our home; thus the Lord's Day bread-breaking and prophesying meetings began in our home. Brother Wu and Brother Lin Hong would also come to my home to support and care for the situation of the Lord's Day meetings. In the process of opening our home, the capacity of Huimei's and my service was gradually enlarged, and our elder daughter and second daughter were born one after another.
Looking back on the past, I see Brother Wu loving the Lord, loving all the saints, and serving all the saints, full of human cherishing and divine nourishing toward people; he also perfected all the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the building up of the Body of Christ.
