Serving People Tenderly and in Detail
Faithful unto Death without Regard for Life
At the Chinese-Speaking New Spring Conference in 2010, I saw Brother Paul Wu for the first time. On that occasion, our flight arrived at the Taipei airport late at night, and Brother Wu was there at the airport welcoming the saints who had come from various places. To see Brother Wu personally meeting us at the airport at such a late hour moved me deeply. When the conference ended, I again saw Brother Wu at the airport seeing off, one by one, the saints who had come from various places, and I admired him all the more. I thought to myself: is this not the same Brother Wu who stood on the platform these two days? In 2012 it was the same experience, and in 2015 it was likewise so.
From 2016 until before August 2018, I would go to Taipei twice each year to fellowship with Brother Wu, and each time Brother Wu would take much time to fellowship with me and to perfect me; and many times, after he returned home in the evening, very late, he would still come to the room where I was staying to fellowship with me and perfect me. Each time I stayed in Hall One in Taipei, seeing Brother Wu, dragging his weary body, still striving so hard, I was each time deeply sustained and supplied.
In the course of so many contacts, Brother Wu helped me not only in the truth, but even more was a pattern to me in daily life! In July 2016 I went to Hall One in Taipei, and as soon as the morning revival ended, he kept his eye on me and took me to breakfast. Several brothers and sisters were sitting together with us, and Brother Wu said to me, "Brother Xiaonan, this sister was saved only three months ago and loves the Lord very much." The face of that sister then beamed with a brilliant smile.
In 2017 I went to Hall One in Taipei. After one meeting ended, Brother Wu said to me, "Brother Xiaonan, let's go have lunch together." Several saints went with us, and while we were eating, Brother Wu said to me, "Brother Xiaonan, this Brother Zhang loves the Lord very much." The face of that brother immediately lit up. Then he said to the other saints, "Brother Xiaonan sends me the morning revival to nourish me every day; he has sent it for many years and has never stopped." Through these details of daily life, Brother Wu perfected me as to how to shepherd people.
In 2018 I went to the summer training. In the morning I saw Brother Wu serving in the Church in Cerritos, distributing books and periodicals. On every subsequent visit to the winter and summer trainings, I would see Brother Wu distributing books and periodicals. When I went to attend the 2018 winter training, I suddenly heard that Brother Wu had had a sudden myocardial infarction and was hospitalized. In the midst of the training, I went to the hospital to visit the brother. When Brother Wu heard that I was waiting outside to see him, he immediately had a brother come out and call me in; he was still concerned for me, asking whether there was anyone to meet me at the Los Angeles airport, and he said that before he fell ill, he had already arranged everything. In the 2019 winter training, I saw Brother Wu, as ever, appearing in the Church in Cerritos dragging his weary body. While meeting in the Church in Cerritos, Brother Wu said, "The brothers urge me to rest well, saying that the brothers are very worried about my body and very afraid that something might happen to it. Brother Wu said, "Even I am not afraid; what are you afraid of?" In Brother Wu I saw that toward the Lord whom he loved, he was "faithful unto death without regard for life." When the training ended, Brother Wu saw us off to the airport in Cerritos; that was the last time I was together with Brother Wu. I said to Brother Wu, "In the 2020 spring training I will come to the United States to meet and fellowship with you." Little did I expect that that parting would become the last time I would see him in this life. Brother Paul Wu, we miss you!
