Serving the Lord as a Slave Shepherding People
Every time Brother Paul Wu and Brother Lin Hong (林鴻) came to visit the churches in Korea, I also had the opportunity to accompany them as a translator. Although I was only translating at their side, I witnessed how the brothers helped the churches in various places and their burden for those churches.
The brother was a good pattern of one who closely followed the ministry. For the sake of translating, I accompanied Brother Wu to visit the churches in various places, and the greatest benefit to me was seeing in the brother how to help a church enter into the speaking and leading of the ministry. Brother Wu came to Korea several times a year, and wherever he went, he did all he could to fellowship the latest words and burden of the ministry to the local church. Many times he said to the serving brothers, "The leading brothers must take the lead to follow the ministry; if you cannot follow the ministry, how can you serve the church?" He not only spoke this way; he himself also practiced it this way.
The brother faithfully served the churches in various places. Brother Wu always had the churches in Korea on his heart and prayed for the saints. As soon as a church had a need, he was the first to come to support it. Even when a place had a financial need, he was willing to bring the burden into the fellowship of the churches, that is, into the fellowship of the Body. I believe that many churches in Korea, because of the brother's service, received the fellowship and support of the Body, and even more saw the reality of the Body. Whenever a local church had a need or a difficulty, Brother Wu encouraged the local brothers to visit the churches in Taiwan. As a result, they all received great encouragement and help. And so, in the blending of the Body, we laid aside all our difficulties and went on.
In Brother Wu I saw that, besides the churches, he also cared for many individual saints, loved them, and shepherded them. Every time he went to the church in Daejeon, he always cared about the situation of certain individual saints and of the church life. His visiting schedule was so tight, yet he was willing to go visit them, have fellowship with them, and encourage them to live the service life earnestly. I saw that what the brother bore on his heart was people, and he served them with all he could. When the saints had needs, he always did his utmost to meet them. In the brother I saw what it means to "be a slave" in shepherding the saints to serve the Lord.
