Serving the Lord with a Striving Spirit, Soul, and Body
In 2010 the brothers from Brazil and Paraguay formed a group to attend the fall International Training for Elders and Responsible Ones held in Pusan, Korea, and I accompanied them. It was during that training that Brother Wu called out my name for the first time, and afterward we had much fellowship concerning the Lord's move in South America and the purchasing of meeting halls.
In October 2014, after the first business gospel gathering in Hong Kong, there was such a gathering once each year, with much fellowship for each gathering. Brother Wu said, "The gospel to all the nations on the campuses; the business gospel to the whole globe." He valued the work of the business gospel, regarding it as the oneness of the gospel work for mainland China.
In 2017, at the "Healthy New Living" in Tokyo, Japan, Brother Wu called for the "Adult Study-Travel Class," saying that to love the Lord one must have action, and therefore one should receive the training of this ministry. The enrollment was very enthusiastic, and the number of participants multiplied with each term, bringing many to salvation and also reviving many business saints to rise up to love the Lord and offer themselves. After each term of training ended, there were actions of preaching the gospel and shepherding people in various places throughout Taiwan and mainland China.
In 2018, after the one-week training of the Adult Study-Travel Class ended, we traveled in two carloads from Zhongxing New Village in Nantou to the church in Taipei to bear gospel testimony. At that time, concerning how to arrange the testimonies, some differing opinions arose among the brothers of the study-travel class, and sure enough, after two sessions of testimony the number of those baptized was not as in the past. We had already fasted and prayed for a whole day. That evening, past ten o'clock, we were arranged to eat in the basement of one of the meeting halls. The brothers had no appetite and were still examining why we had failed. Brother Wu, dragging his weak body, called everyone behind the dining counter to eat, personally serving food to each one—it was as though he were giving each one encouragement. I knew that he himself had not eaten; he wanted first to feed the Lord's flock. The brothers were all moved and yielded, and the prayer of confession before the meal brought in the victory of the gospel meeting the next day. Praise the Lord!
The image of Brother Wu's pattern has lingered within me and cannot be dispelled. I remember that on December 9, 2019, Brother Qian took me from Jeju Island back to Taiwan after the "Healthy New Living" exercise, to report the situation of the meetings to Brother Wu and Brother Lin. Brother Wu's health was extremely poor at the time; that night he had not slept well because of the interference of his medication, but the next day the many affairs of the church would not allow him to make up his sleep. We were heartbroken. He still insisted on giving us a love feast, having to support himself against the wall as he walked, his eyelids half-open as he looked at the way. O Lord! My physical condition is stronger than Brother Wu's, yet I do not have that striving spirit, soul, and body of his.
In early 2020, when the elders and co-workers from all over Taiwan had fellowship at the blending center in central Taiwan, I went to deliver something to the brothers. By coincidence, the moment I entered the blending center, Brother Wu appeared right in front of me and called out, "Yinghan." At that moment I nodded my head and quickly left—no, I should say I "fled," for I dared not say anything then, feeling that I had so failed the brothers with whom I coordinated, and I feel deeply indebted to this very day.…
