Holding His Life of No Account as Precious,
Only to Finish His Course and the Ministry He Received—
Solemnly Testifying the Gospel
In the 1990s, Brother Wu visited the church where I was. In a meeting I saw him from afar, and I saw his sturdy and broad figure. The next time I met him was in 2019, in the gospel service of the study-abroad class, when we were preaching the gospel at the Xinji Building and had fellowship with Brother Wu about the gathering. While we were eating at the restaurant in the Xinji Building, Brother Wu came to see us, and I saw him carrying in one hand a machine and a thin tube, the tube connected to his body. His physical condition was not good, yet he served as usual—it was truly moving.
At that time I wanted to keep the scene of that moment, so I asked Brother Wu whether we could take a photo together, and the brother gladly agreed. But when the photo was being taken, the brother quietly tucked the machine he was carrying in one hand behind his back. This gesture stirred deep feelings in me. The brother did not want to let the saints see the condition of his body; in him was the human virtue of Jesus—humility. "Willing to exchange death for the overflow of life, willing to be broken in order to give forth the fragrance of resurrection—this is the footprint you have left, calling people to follow silently." Amen! Brother Wu, you truly are our good pattern.
Here I want to thank Brother Wu for the impartation of his burden, which gave us a new vision and a new practice. The brother laid himself out so for the Lord's service, putting his own body out of his account. As Paul said, "But I consider my life of no account as if precious to myself, in order that I may finish my course and the ministry which I have received from the Lord Jesus."
