Fellowshipping with the Churches Overseas, Serving All God's Children with the Riches of the Ministry
Brother Tao Guoqing (陶國清): The shared memory that we three have of coordinating with Brother Wu is in the service of the large conferences. Brother Liu was in the coordination of the cleaning and arranging group in 1977. Brother Ouyang, from 1985 until the completion of the Hsin-Chi Building in 1998, had a part in every kind of service in the blending conferences of all the churches across the globe, never absent from any labor. I began to learn to serve from 1999. A large conference requires many people—many to attend, and many to coordinate in the service.
Although Brother Wu handled so many affairs, the emphasis of his service was nonetheless upon people. He often considered how to cultivate and shepherd the saints with secular employment, and among these he placed special weight upon the young brothers and sisters. Although he served the Lord full-time, at the same time he also served as the manager of the bookroom. He often encouraged the saints with secular employment not to give up or neglect the church life or sacrifice their service in the church because of the pressure or heavy burden of their occupation, or because of the pursuit of achievement or material things. He often used himself as an example, exhorting the saints with secular employment to serve the Lord full-time while keeping their occupations. He encouraged them to participate actively in the church life and to put themselves into the coordination of the service in the church.
This was shown especially in the service to the scholars in North America through the gospel and to the saints who run businesses.
In 2003 in New Jersey, during the perfecting training of the Chinese-speaking saints, the Holy Spirit was poured out, and ninety-nine saints wrote down their consecration intent on the spot. From then until now, over the course of more than ten years, tens of thousands of Chinese-speaking students and scholars in North America have been gained by the Lord and consecrated to Him. Among them, not a few laid down their occupations to serve full-time. But even more brothers and sisters serve full-time in the church life while keeping their occupations, bringing immense blessing to the church.
Likewise, beginning in 2014, a burden for preaching the gospel was raised up among the saints who run businesses. These brothers and sisters who, because of the busyness of their business, had lost the church life, began with the prayer of two or three. Day by day they experienced renewing in the spirit, redeemed the time, were saturated with the Lord's word, experienced being filled in the Holy Spirit, and burned hotly to preach the gospel.
Brother Wu saw their desire and attitude to be further perfected. Beginning in 2017, the study tour class for those in their middle years was established. Over the course of three years, several hundred brothers and sisters labored diligently, strenuously, and with consecration. Through the reminding and support of their companions, and by making use of the convenience of the internet, they completed the training while keeping their occupations. The wonderful transforming work that the Lord did upon them in these years was the greatest support and comfort to Brother Wu.
For the sake of the Lord's having personally perfected this group of brothers and sisters through Brother Wu's service, causing each of them to become a healthy, living, and fully functioning member in the Body of Christ, serving the Lord full-time while keeping their occupations, we praise the Lord!
