Death Cannot Imprison the Victory of Christ
In May 2008, less than a year after I was saved, Brother Wenchen took us to Dallas to attend the Memorial Day conference. Before the conference there was a fellowship for the Chinese-speaking saints, and Wenchen encouraged several of us newly saved lambs to share our experience of reading through the Bible once in a year in our reading group.
After the meeting, a brother with a robust build, thick eyebrows, large eyes, and a kind and gentle countenance came up to me, shook my hand, greeted me, and handed me a name card printed with "Taiwan Gospel Book Room." This was the first time I came to know Brother Wu. The brother encouraged me to love the Lord well and to read the Bible much, and warmly invited me to visit the churches in Taiwan when I had the opportunity. Only later did I learn that Brother Wu was a "big" brother in the Lord's recovery; but at that time Brother Wu was so approachable, so amiable, so full of an endearing warmth. I myself had been saved only a short while, and my life and knowledge were both very shallow; only slowly did I come to realize that this was the mature and natural expression of the life of Christ. Praise the Lord!
Before long I did indeed have the opportunity to visit Taiwan. Brother Wu was a very busy man, and I was one just newly saved, the smallest of small brothers in the Lord. Yet several times Brother Wu either personally received me or arranged for brothers to warmly receive me. I remember that once he personally drove to National Taiwan University to pick me up to go together to blend and have a love feast with the churches in Taoyuan and Zhongli, and he also received me at the Shengxin Christian Building.
Later, attending conferences in various places and the perfecting training in New Jersey, I had the opportunity to receive Brother Wu's leading and fellowship many times. I was drawn by Brother Wu's broad and magnanimous heart and his upright, frank, and hearty character, and even more by his absolute faithfulness to the Lord and his shrewd, consecrated, and sacrificial spirit.
Later I gradually came to understand that, under the leading and promotion of our brother, a system was established whereby the full-time serving ones and the leading brothers of all the churches throughout Taiwan would be rotated and transferred every three to five years—I greatly praise the Lord for the wisdom He gave our brother, by which the church truly received great blessing.
Later I also gradually learned that Brother Wu was not only the leading brother of all the churches throughout Taiwan; he also went many times to mainland China to blend with the brothers and sisters in various places, and for ten consecutive years he personally led teams to support the training of the students and scholars in North America.
In our beloved Brother Wu we truly saw the expression of the full measure of Christ; the wisdom of Christ made him a wise master builder, and we saw all the more the victory of Christ that death cannot imprison!
