We Shared in
the Love of One Who Loved the Lord, Toward the Lord
I truly admire the largeness of Brother Wu Yucheng. The people and the affairs he served in the course of his life are beyond numbering.
In late February of 2001, our family, who had grown up in the church in Taichung, after attending the New Spring Chinese-Speaking Conference in America, returned to Taiwan in high spirits to attend the inauguration meeting of the Revival Building of the church in Taichung. My mother, eighty-four years old, was excited all along the way to see saints she had not met for many years; and after leaving Taichung she also wished to go to Taipei to take a look at the Xinji Building, in which she had always had a part in her burden. Unfortunately she was overly weary, and on the eve of leaving Taiwan she had a bad fall and fractured her thighbone, undergoing emergency surgery at Mackay Hospital in Taipei. During my mother's hospital stay, many brothers and sisters came to visit. My mother said happily that she had now seen many brothers and sisters she had not been able to see. Truly we thank the Lord!
A week after she was discharged, Brother Wu arranged for my mother to recuperate at Hall One in Taipei, and my third elder sister, Litao, hurried over from Ohio in America to care for her. The flight arrived deep in the night, and Brother Wu personally drove to Taoyuan to meet the plane; we felt deeply uneasy and unworthy, but the brother said one sentence: "If it is something I myself would not want to do, or find troublesome, how could I assign it to another brother?" Seeing this attitude and practice of his—doing everything personally, attending to every detail—on the one hand, our hearts ached that the brother did too much and overdrew his strength too greatly; on the other hand, it also stirred us up to be willing to follow his pattern, and to serve the saints more.
Brother Wu's elder sister, Sister Xinlan, during that difficult time for us, also gave us care and nourishment that are hard to forget. This is loving the Lord, and it is also a household of the Lord's love.
