The Literature Work and the Spreading of the Ministry
Sister Huang Lin Xiuhua: As the brothers have testified, the influence of Brother Wu's perfecting and care for the brothers and sisters of the book room—whether in work, in living, or in service—was far-reaching and hard to express in full. He was an eldest brother yet was like a father; he was a responsible brother yet was even more like a companion. In the 1980s, because there were rather few brothers in the book room, Brother Wu used the sisters as brothers; therefore, whether in the book-and-periodical promotion actions everywhere, or in the two trainings of winter and summer, or even in coordinating with the churches' spread, the sisters all had a part in it, and thus became the true beneficiaries of this ministry.
The year that Brother Lee was translating the Chinese Recovery Version of the Bible in Taiwan, we had the privilege of being his helpers at his side, yet we often made mistakes and so could not help but be discouraged. Brother Wu encouraged us to hold on: "This is a glorious service; you must hold on." This holding on has lasted forty years.
The year Brother Lee fell ill, Brother Wu led us to kneel down and pray, saying, "Let us support our dear Brother Lee with prayer." This one prayer has lasted twenty years. Even after Brother Lee's departure, this prayer became the prayer of the brothers and sisters of the book room for the churches and the co-workers. At the beginning of the practice of the new way, Brother Wu led the whole book room to learn begetting, nourishing, teaching, and building, and afterward to exercise praying, studying, memorizing, and speaking, and we even had to fill out an exercise chart. To encourage us, the brother had even prepared rewards.
The brother had a broad love, an ability to bear high pressure, and a vitality that no one could match. We cannot fathom how that God who is full of economy laid hold of him so tightly. But we saw how, after suffering a stroke at the age of thirty-five and coming to realize that he was a man belonging to God, he began a life of full consecration. Time and again he suffered strokes, yet he was not knocked down; he laid hold of God tightly and completed one by one the things God had entrusted to him. In these years he was admitted to and discharged from the hospital several times; we beside him were at a loss what to do, yet he straightened his back, did not lose heart, and, dragging his faltering steps, continued to lay hold of God, striving to advance the work of God's economy, accomplishing the ministry of reconciliation everywhere, and powerfully perfecting the young people. On an airplane his breath stopped, yet still he was not knocked down; he laid hold of God and came back to life, continuing his unfinished work.
We saw a beautiful life in which God and man were tightly joined, needing each other, mutually indwelling one another. It was God who, in a man who was incomplete yet absolutely consecrated to Him, accomplished a complete work. An incomplete man living to God; a God who never gives up living together with man. May the Lord have mercy on us, that we may follow the brother's footsteps and walk on the path God has ordained.
