Being Diligent to Keep the Oneness of the Spirit in the Uniting Bond of Peace
There cannot be many people who could address Brother Wu in this way; how blessed I am…
It was only when I went to Singapore to study during junior high that I began to have the opportunity to come into contact with Papa Wu. At that time, because the church in Singapore had encountered a storm, the co-workers from various places often came to support and strengthen the Lord's testimony in Singapore, especially the co-workers from Taiwan, and our family would receive the co-working brothers every time—and of course we also had the opportunity to receive Papa Wu. Each time Papa Wu stayed at our home, he would always show concern and greet everyone in the family, from the oldest to the youngest. As I recall, what I loved most was listening to him recount, with his face lighting up, the amusing happenings from his days as an athlete in competition or as a teacher; I listened with relish every time. I remember that when I graduated from high school and was about to go to America to study, Papa Wu gave me a New Testament Recovery Version with footnotes, inside which he had written for me with a brush some words of the Lord. Looking again these days at his handwriting, I miss him so much…
After I had a family of my own and returned to Taiwan, to meet Papa Wu I had to wait until there was a conference or a book exhibition. When Papa Wu came to my home again, it was no longer because he was being received as a guest, but because he came to visit my aged grandmother. Thank you, Papa Wu—however busy, however weary you were, you remembered the family members in sickness and pain; even at her last meeting on this earth, you supported us with all your strength!
Early this year my husband and I mentioned that during the New Year holiday we wanted to find an opportunity to go see Papa Wu, so I made an appointment with him; it was on the afternoon of a day after he had finished his dialysis. That day our family sat in the living room of his home with him, Mama Wu, and Jurong and his sister, joyfully fellowshipping about how each of us was doing recently. Before going home we took a group photo together, and I even volunteered, saying I would take a selfie, which made Papa Wu chuckle with delight. What impressed us most that day was that in the closing prayer, Papa Wu prayed and blessed our children by name. That day we had spoken our children's names only once, yet he had kept them all in his heart.
Dear Papa Wu, we love you and we miss you! Thank you for what you have left us—the very best pattern of loving and serving the Lord! We will surely follow closely, living all our life in this ministry, being diligent to keep the oneness of the Spirit in the uniting bond of peace! Papa Wu, we will meet again in that day!
