His Words Were like the Man, the Man like His Words
Brother Wu never boasted of spiritual qualifications, never gave people religious regulations, and never looked down on any member who had believed into the Lord. His broad acceptance of others and his magnanimous generosity were truly rare in this generation. I remember that once a brother and I asked him for counsel: "You are truly like a spiritual physician—a patient whom others find too troublesome, once in your hands, you can always bring back to life; anyone else would have given up long ago. We do not know how you can have such a heart." Brother Wu answered, "People all look at others' shortcomings, and they even magnify those shortcomings; and so their days become hard. Learn to look at the saints' merits and strong points, and then your days can be joyful." These few brief words not only revealed the blind spot of so many, but even more pointed out the secret of the practical building up with all the saints in the church life!
On another occasion we asked Brother Wu how he could pass through the turbulences of the church without being stumbled, and still continue to love the Lord and serve the Lord. Brother Wu said, "First, you must pursue the Lord's word; the only thing that can uphold a person is the Lord's word. Second, you must learn to coordinate with the brothers and sisters; only then is it easy to have a real building up. If everyone cannot be together, then it is not easy to be built up." Brother Wu, always in ordinary conversation, gave us the vision of revelation and the practical way, and we benefited deeply.
Brother Wu's words were like the man, and the man like his words; this became the most concrete reminder to us. Among all the churches, he was like Moses and Paul, wholly faithful to God's house, and his overcomer's reward is already in the Lord's hand.
