A Family That Gives Itself Selflessly
I remember that the first time I saw Brother Wu Youcheng up close was in 2015 during the New Spring Chinese-speaking conference held at the Taipei Arena. Together with several brothers and sisters from the mainland, we ran into Brother Wu at the venue, and the brothers and sisters went over to greet him. My brother also introduced me to Brother Wu, and then all of us took a group photo together as a keepsake.
Brief as this experience was, the impression Brother Wu left on me was deep: here was a brother whom the brothers and sisters from anywhere could stop at any time, to greet him and take a photo—so approachable! So especially amiable and kind! He was not only a servant of God, but also a servant of all the saints in all the earth!
One day in September 2018, my brother and I went to Taipei. When we arrived at Hall One, that evening Brother Wu and Mrs. Wu invited us to dinner at a Shanghai restaurant; their second son, Brother Jurong, and a former schoolmate of Brother Wu also went along. During the meal Brother Wu, as ever, personally and attentively ordered the dishes, warmly introduced each dish as it came, and from time to time said, "Don't be polite—if you like it, eat more!"
But this time Mrs. Wu left a deep impression on me. It was the first time I had met her, and at the table the two of us sat together. Mrs. Wu did not speak much, but her gentle and quiet spirit, her sweet submission, her selfless devotion, and her pure conduct in the fear of God made me marvel that this was the helper behind Brother Wu—a joint-heir of the grace of life, absolutely toward God; one who, devoting herself together with him, was a family wholly for His church!
In April 2019, my brother and I stayed at Hall One in Taipei for more than two weeks, enjoying a sweet church life together with the brothers and sisters of District Nine. I saw how Brother Wu cared in every way for the small groups and for each one of the brothers and sisters in the district! Spiritually, in the various meetings Brother Wu warmly encouraged the brothers and sisters to prophesy, and in a timely way he supplied the brothers and sisters with the word of the ministry. Before and after the meetings he asked after their welfare, expressing the love of God through the word of life!
Brother Wu also encouraged the brothers and sisters to blend more. On one of the Saturdays, although the brother was physically weak, he still went out together with Mrs. Wu, bringing us along with the saints of District Nine to blend outside. In this blending I again saw Brother and Mrs. Wu coordinate sweetly, caring for the brothers and sisters. We also met several saints of District Nine whom we had not seen in previous meetings, and we had wonderful fellowship and shepherded and built up one another!
