Supporting, Comforting, Building Up—
the Crown of Glory Is Laid Up
I had many interactions with Brother Wu Yucheng. In the past few years, they were all for the sake of the church's affairs and our dealings with the public sector, in which we suffered some unfair treatment. Thank the Lord—as a brother in the political arena, I felt it was my unshirkable duty to do my utmost to fight for the rights of God's kingdom, especially in the matter of the church in mainland China being gravely misunderstood and slandered. I knew that what I could do was limited, but God is the God of infinite possibility. We labored together; and through the one-accord prayer of the many, God directed all things and accomplished what in man's eyes was impossible, and together we rejoiced and gave the glory to God.
Sometimes he would come to the Legislative Yuan to attend coordination meetings; sometimes I would go to the Christian Faith Building to discuss matters with him; and many times we, together with the brothers and elders, would have meals together to share, fellowship, and pray. My wife and I truly enjoyed the mutual forbearance, acceptance, and care of being together in the one Body. A brother in politics is under great pressure, and in fact often feels lonely; yet Brother Wu, at the very times when we were most hard-pressed and in difficulty, would in a timely way give us support, comfort, and building up beyond what we asked or thought. Whenever I recall the many scenes of our interactions, the deep emotion within me is beyond words.
The last time I met with Brother Wu was a little over a month before he rested in the Lord's bosom. He, together with the brothers, came to the Wenshan District to care for and support us in our need. At that time his body must have been pressing on by sheer effort; thinking of it now, I truly cannot bear it. In the past Brother Wu rushed about everywhere for the affairs of the churches throughout Taiwan and the whole world. Although I know that Brother Wu has now rested from his labors on earth, and that a crown of glory is laid up for him, I still cannot help but cherish the memory of this good and faithful elder brother in the Lord.
