Not Regarding Himself, Laboring to the Utmost in the Lord's Work
In 1988, while I was still in the training, I learned to coordinate in the service with Brother Wu in Hall Sixteen of the church in Taipei. At that time there was a service fellowship on Monday evenings, and the brothers would ask everyone to speak about the grace they had received the preceding Lord's Day and about the situations in which the goals had not been reached. Such fellowship made rather rigorous demands upon the serving ones. My impression of Brother Wu in those days was that he was a brother who would surely accomplish his commission.
Brother Wu, not regarding the illnesses of his body, labored to the utmost; he was one who took the lead and went before others. Each morning at 6:30, at the pray-reading, studying, memorizing, and speaking of the crystallization-study, I would think that surely I had arrived earlier than the others; little did I expect that Brother Wu, neatly dressed, was always already seated early in a corner of the meeting place. He was one who did not regard himself, who labored to be a pattern to the saints, leading the saints together into the speaking of the ministry. At the beginning of 2019, when the brother's body had just recovered but he still had to move about with a tube attached, he still attended every elders' meeting and every fellowship of the responsible brothers of the large district.
He loved the students. He encouraged the college students to attend the training. And according to the situation of their exercise and their personal financial needs, he asked the responsible brothers to provide them with appropriate subsidies. From this we see how greatly the brother loved the students, how he desired that they have a part in the speaking of the ministry, and how he practically helped these students who had a heart, so that they might attain their aspiration. He was a very practical brother.
May I follow the brother's pattern, that I would not regard myself but would regard only Christ and the church, and that I would bring the saints whom I serve into the riches of this ministry.
