Faith, Capacity, Wisdom, and Love
I have known Brother Youcheng for several decades. Ever since I was saved we have had very deep fellowship, and I have continually been nourished and perfected by Brother Wu. During the time my mother was in America, she, the mother of Brother Youcheng, and the mother of Brother Guanghui were very close morning-revival companions and vital companions. My son Geming and Brother Youcheng's youngest son Jurong were also playmates who grew up romping together from childhood; our whole family and Brother Youcheng's whole family are very well acquainted and have fellowship.
Over these many years my knowledge of Brother Youcheng has been especially deep. Besides being the pattern of loving and serving the Lord that everyone acknowledges, and a leading brother able to blend and harmonize all things, most people feel that his ability was very great—he could doze off and listen to fellowship at the same time even when he was utterly exhausted. Yet for me, my admiration for him does not stop there. In him I saw four things that were especially great:
First, his faith was great.
"No problem" was his trademark, a phrase often heard from his mouth. His "no problem" was not merely something said to comfort or placate people. According to my own observation and follow-up, his "no problem" was truly no problem, because he would always help with all his strength. To take a recent example: two years ago, Hall Twenty-five was entrusted with the need to add a new meeting hall half a year ahead of schedule. At the time both I and Brother Pan felt it was very difficult, because we had received the fellowship on short notice and nothing had been prepared—there was no money to speak of, no people to speak of, and as for a location, we had no idea where it would be. So we went to fellowship with Brother Wu, and in a thoroughly relaxed manner he said to us, "No problem! Pray more, and just go all out! The Lord will do a great thing."
Thank the Lord! Truly, with man it is impossible, but with God all things are possible! In less than three months the Lord did a marvelous and great thing, and Hall Seventy was established on schedule. The brothers and sisters were not only filled with joy and cheer but also came to know and experience more deeply the Lord's mighty power, faithfulness, and grace. Their faith was further strengthened!
Second, his capacity was great.
He was never sparing toward any of the saints who came to him for help. Toward the needs of the churches and the propagation overseas, he always gave the greatest support and help he was able to. In caring for and perfecting the full-time co-workers he spared no effort. Especially toward the few co-workers who could not quite keep up, he was all the more tolerant, continually giving them opportunities to grow. Such capacity truly made me admire him!
Third, his mind was great.
Thank the Lord, the Lord gave him a head of very high wisdom. Not only did he lead us forward in the church in Taipei, but in the harmony, stability, and development of all the churches in Taiwan, and even of all the churches throughout the earth, he played a key role. Especially in recent years he vigorously promoted the rejuvenation of the church, actively raising up the younger generation in preparation for the handing down of the church, and implemented the dividing of labor and cooperation through the larger-district arrangement (dividing in order to govern together), causing the church in Taipei to go forward one step further.
Fourth, his love was also great.
Although Brother Wu was tall and big in stature, his heart was tender and fine, and there was always a smile on his face. He loved the Lord, loved the church, and loved the brothers and sisters. While my mother was still living, Brother Wu often visited her amid his busy schedule; sometimes when he met her at a meeting, he would take the initiative to ask warmly after my mother, deeply moving her. Not only so, but Brother Wu and Mrs. Wu were also especially loving and caring toward my children. All this was because his love was also very great.
