A Broad Capacity and a Tender Heart
I once wrote these words in my notebook:
"Whether a person is mature or worthy of respect is often seen in how he treats those of a lower status and standing than himself. Today I wrote a letter to an elder, expressing my concern over a certain matter. This elder attends to a thousand affairs a day; I had not expected him to reply, for he had no need to take notice of one who had just set out, with no influence to speak of. Yet after I sent him the letter, I unexpectedly received his reply within a few hours! Only after receiving the letter did I come to understand a little what is called the bearing of a leader. I hope that I too may treat others according to this pattern."
The person in the notebook is Brother Wu. On one hand he was a man with an exceedingly broad capacity, and on the other hand a man with a tender heart, bearing many of the younger ones and the young people upon his heart. He is our excellent pattern, and we hope that we too may be like him, becoming persons who, in the love of the Lord, shepherd all the saints.
