The Blood of the Lamb, the Word of Testimony, and Even unto Death
They Loved Not Their Soul-life
In the latter half of 1999, the first semester of my second year of full-time training, most of the trainees were assigned to the churches in various places for propagation, while I and six other trainees were assigned to the promotion team for the Recovery Version of the New Testament. This caused me to have a deeper share in the coordination of the literature work of the ministry. We were a team of seven, following the Taiwan Gospel Book Room, in which Brother Wu served, and we spent nearly half a year traveling through the whole of Taiwan. We coordinated with the leading brothers of the churches throughout Taiwan, perfecting the saints to enter into the untraceable riches of the Recovery Version of the New Testament, and promoting it to other Christian groups, large and small! Among them were a seminary president, a deputy county magistrate, a hospital director, university faculty and staff, and others!
In July 2000, having just graduated from the training and preparing to be married, I was penniless and knew only that I was to love the Lord and serve the Lord, and to go to Russia for the propagation! Because I had coordinated in the book and periodical promotion of the Gospel Book Room, I often had opportunities to fellowship with Brother Wu. Through fellowship with Brother Wu, he mobilized the serving ones of the Gospel Book Room and of Hall One in Taipei to serve the wedding meeting of myself and of another couple of trainees. I married a Korean sister and remained to serve in Hall One for a year, then went on to serve in the Philippines and Korea. The other couple was the Korean Brother Li and his wife, who later went to Hungary for the propagation. Brother Wu cared for our need, so that we might labor more for the Lord and carry out God's economy!
From July 2000, at that time I could not speak Korean, my wife could not speak Chinese, and the common language between us was English. Brother Wu first kept us in Hall One in Taipei to serve for a year, letting my wife learn Chinese for a year, and letting me learn to serve among the brothers ahead of me.
That year I personally experienced that Brother Wu was a good steward of the varied grace of God. According to each one's capacity and need, he ministered Christ to us. My questions—small ones, such as when it was suitable to have children and how to coordinate with the brothers, and large ones, such as how the Lord's recovery should go on amid all kinds of storms—he did not begrudge answering me, an insignificant little brother. The time for consulting him on these questions was, for the most part, after ten o'clock at night, which was just when he had returned to Hall One dragging his weary body. He was a good and faithful steward of the varied grace of God!
During the year I served in Hall One, I encountered one of Brother Wu's several strokes. Because of his burly stature, weighing over a hundred kilograms, it required three strong men—me, Brother Yang, and Brother Zhai—to support him together and carry him from the fifth floor down to the ambulance outside on the ground floor, to be rushed to National Taiwan University Hospital for emergency treatment! My feelings at the time were truly tense beyond measure; but recalling it now, was not such a man—one who served the Lord without loving his own soul-life—an overcomer!
Later, the Lord raised up a burden within me, that I might go to Korea to serve. Afterward, I fellowshipped with Brother Wu about this matter, and he said, "No problem!" In the end it was also confirmed that there was no problem. After the Chinese-Speaking New Spring Conference in 2004, I moved my whole family to Korea to serve. Brother Wu was a connecting sinew and joint of the Body of Christ, causing us to be built up in the Body!
