Anxious for the Salvation of Men's Souls

This was already a matter of twenty years ago—the midnight, early-morning flight from the Los Angeles airport to Taipei. That year I was fifteen years old, and my two-month vacation at my aunt's home was about to end. During that time I had just come into contact with the saints in the Lord's recovery. I was about eighty percent certain about becoming a Christian; I just lacked that final push over the threshold. On my last day in America, after dragging my luggage and bidding farewell to my family, my aunt drove me toward the airport in the middle of the night.

Just as my aunt was inwardly worrying about whom to contact in Taiwan to take care of me, we ran into Brother Wu Youcheng at the airport. After a brief fellowship, my aunt entrusted my name and contact information to Brother Wu. The three of us then bid one another farewell at the airport and each went our separate ways. At the time I was still ignorant and did not think much of it; I simply felt that after returning to Taiwan I would go back to the familiar days of the past, and I did not sense that there would be any new situation.

These people who believe in the Lord are not quite like ordinary people, for the Lord is faithful, and these ones who are earnest toward the Lord are also faithful to keep their promises. Within less than a month after Brother Wu returned to Taiwan, he had contacted the local brothers and sisters to come and visit me and my family. Salvation came to my home in this way. Through the diligent and faithful visiting of the brothers and sisters, a month later I was baptized and saved at the youth meeting of Hall Twelve of the church in Taipei; my mother was also baptized into the Lord's name three months later, returning to the household of God. My two younger brothers were each baptized a few years afterward, and up to the present, even my relatives at home who had not believed have one after another believed into God and received His salvation—truly like a long cluster of grapes, fruitful and abundant.

I often think that if I had not run into Brother Wu at the airport that night, perhaps the time of my salvation would have been dragged out much longer. I thank Brother Wu for his faithfulness toward the Lord. Although it was only a hurried, single meeting, he viewed all the people, matters, and things he encountered with God's eyes; he was a priest of God's gospel, anxious for the salvation of men's souls. After being saved, I often saw Uncle Wu in conferences or in the release of the ministry's messages. His recognition of God and his coordination with the saints never wavered; his steadfastness and absoluteness were truly admirable.
