Not Regarding His Own Interests,
Gladly Sacrificing All He Had for the Children of God
Brother Wu Youcheng's English name was "Paul Wu"! Indeed! In loving the Lord, in the burden to spread the ministry, and in diligently serving all the churches, he was the Paul of the book of Acts! That "plague" who infected others with everything positive! Everyone who came into contact with him would, because of his love for the Lord, also be drawn by this ministry through him, and even more, seeing the pattern of his labor, would long to serve the church!
I still remember that on the first day of every winter and summer training in Anaheim, at the registration desk for the saints from Taiwan, I would always see the figure of Brother Wu, handing out the name badges and the related training materials to the saints one by one. I thought to myself, "Brother Wu! This kind of service of handing out training materials—does it require a leading brother like you to do it personally?" Yes! There he was, his shoulder bent low under the load, laboring and serving, caring for how the saints appreciated and entered into this ministry!
Brother Wu was also an elder brother with a tender mind and thoughtful, considerate care for others. Once he came to Tainan to serve a wedding meeting, and immediately afterward he had to hurry to Kaohsiung to serve another wedding meeting. I drove to serve him, and as I took him onto the freeway, who would have thought that the road to Kaohsiung was very crowded and the traffic extremely slow; I was worried we would be late.
Brother Wu actually knew what was weighing on my heart, and he said to me, "Drive slowly! No need to rush! We'll definitely make it! Relax!" The great stone in my heart instantly dropped. His tender care for people left a deep impression on me!
Once at a summer training, a saint from Brazil registered for the training through me from the Tainan deacons' office. On the very first morning of the opening of the training, we suddenly discovered that he had not been registered; and because the training rules were strict, without a name badge one could not enter the meetings! With the first meeting of the afternoon only a few hours away, my heart was very anxious; in the end, through Brother Lin Cheng'en reporting this situation to Brother Wu, this urgent matter was settled just like that! A leading brother who managed a myriad of affairs daily, who planned strategy and cared for all the churches, yet even such a small matter he remembered!
It reminds me of a footnote on Nehemiah 2:3: In his relationship with the people, Nehemiah was wholly unselfish; he sought nothing for himself, nor did he regard his own interests. He was always glad to sacrifice all he had for the people and the nation.
Brother Wu was just such a serving one—"wholly unselfish; seeking nothing for himself, not regarding his own interests, gladly sacrificing all he had for the children of God"!
