The Spirit of an Overcomer
In 2002, I was teaching in Singapore and was considering whether the Lord was calling me to return to England, when Brother Wu led the saints serving in the hymns service of Taiwan Gospel Book Room to the church in Singapore. As a sister and I fellowshipped this burden with him, we met with some practical hindrances, such as the matter of the visa. Brother Wu said in faith, "If your heart is set for the Lord, He will open the way for you." I also asked him how, if my body could not keep up, I could still faithfully serve the Lord. He said that as long as you are not so weak that you are lying on a hospital bed, you have no ground to say that your body cannot keep up with serving the Lord. In that fellowship, his spirit of an overcomer greatly encouraged me.
In 2008, Brother Wu visited Birmingham, and some of the brothers in Birmingham invited him to dinner. At that time we had just bought the meeting hall in Birmingham, and there was a great need in the renovation. During the meal, he asked what needs the meeting hall had. We said that we were looking for chairs to use in the meetings, but some of the better brands were beyond our budget. He did not say much, but a few weeks later I received a phone call from a brother, saying that Brother Wu had prepared a shipping container with 200 chairs and many tables that would be shipped to Birmingham. He remembered and supplied our need. If I remember rightly, the time of his visit was right after he had gone through his second stroke and a kidney transplant—truly, what an encouraging pattern of faithfulness.
