Not to Be Served, but to Serve
"Even as the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many." (Matt. 20:28)
Through what I observed while Brother Wu served us all, I saw Christ in him.
Brother Wu was like an elder with whom one felt no distance at all, an exceedingly approachable senior; he was also like an elder brother who, even if you wronged him, treated him unjustly, or mistreated him, would still go on as before to bear with you, to love you, and to care for you. In serving us all there were not many grand or stirring words; rather, in the silent places, he attended to, sympathized with, and dealt with every single person with tenderness, with magnanimity, and with sincerity.
Today, whenever I encounter a question concerning service, it often reminds me of the Lord's word that He came "to serve"; and again and again, without my intending it, I am reminded of the pattern of a serving one whom the Lord prepared for us in our practical living: Brother Paul Wu.
Thanks be to the Lord! By His love He raised up Brother Paul Wu as such a pattern of a serving one! And thanks be to the Lord that He has deeply shown mercy to and blessed the brothers in the church!
